Robin McGurkin-Smith DDS, MS - Diplomate, American Board of Endodontics

General Information

Dr. Robin McGurkin-Smith

In Dr. Robin you could not ask for a more empathetic, caring, and understanding person to attend your dental problem.  Why?  Because she has been there!

Throughout her early years Dr. Robin lived with a dental condition that was finally corrected with surgery.  She came away from this experience with a deep appreciation of the care dedication and compassion that her doctors and their staffs extended to her.  It was during this time that Dr. Robin decided to enter the dental profession so she could help others with their dental needs.

Dr. Robin began her dental education at Wake Forest University where she graduated cum laude with a degree in biology.  Next, she was awarded a DDS degree from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill.  She then travelled to Atlanta where she worked as a general dentist.  After two years of private practice, she was selected by the UNC School of Dentistry for a three-year program of specialized training in endodontics.  There she was recognized by her instructors as a Research Fellow.

Upon completion of the program, she was awarded a MS degree in Endodontics and was presented an award for her research at the annual meeting of the American Association of Endodontists.

In 2009 Dr. Robin became board certified by the American Association of Endodontics.  The process of board certification involves passing a written exam, submitting a variety of cases for board approval, and an oral exam. Only 22% of practicing endodontist are board certified.

Dr. Robin knows the importance of remaining knowledgeable of all the technological advances that are continually taking place in the field of endodontics.  She has attended several endodontic seminars and is committed to continue doing so throughout her career.

Dr. Robin is a member of the American Association of Endodontists and the American Dental Association.

When she is not practicing endodontics, Dr. Robin can be found spending time with her husband (Jeff) and son (Sam), fixing up their home, or playing outside.
